Day 3: Fri 27 Aug - Lisbon

Last night we had decided that we needed to do a hop-on-hop-off bus tour of the city to check out the sights. We purchased a 48hr ticket, and the first time around was to check out those places we thought we may want to stop at next time. Having a 2-day ticket meant there was no rush. Places stopped at today were Parque Eduardo VII, Praca do Marques de Pombal, walked down the Avenida da Liberdade Praca dos Restauradores with the Monument to the Restorers.

The Eduardo VII Park is a public park in the centre of the city, occupying an area of 26 hectares to the north of the Avenida da Liberdade and the Marquis of Pombal Square. Its name pays homage to Edward VII of the United Kingdom who visited Portugal in 1902, to strengthen the relations between the two countries. Until that visit, its name was Liberty Park (Parque da Liberdade). On the northern edge of the park is a flagpole where the present largest Flag of Portugal of the world is usually flown.

Restauradores Square (Portugese: Praça dos Restauradores) is a public square in the city, dedicated to the restoration of the independence of Portugal in 1640, after 60 years of Spanish domination. The obelisk in the middle of the square, The Monument to the Restorers, inaugurated in 1886, carries the names and dates of the battles fought during the Portuguese Restoration War, in 1640.
