Day 8: Wed 1 Sep - Lisbon

After a day spent in the classroom, we all went back to our respective hotels and changed into our ‘stepping-out’ gear for the MEPS dinner which was held at the Caxias Officers Mess.  This Mess is situated to the west of the city of Lisbon, and the view from the top deck was amazing, especially as the sun was setting just as we got to the top.  After the obligatory photographs, we were ushered off to the dining room of the Mess and another balcony where pre-dinner drinks were served.  Again, the main drink served was the GT which is now considered to be “Traditional Portuguese Water”! Dinner consisted of 3 courses.  Entrée was a prawn dish served in a hollowed out half red pawpaw/papaya, followed by a main meal of seafood, then a most delectable dessert of a custardy tart.  As I had already mentioned to the host that I did not eat seafood, I was served soup and steak, respectively. Coffee and after-dinner drinks were then consumed, before being taken back to the Congress centre in a bus. Taxis were used to get back to the hotel.
